The Paper Bag Princess

There are just some books that I have a hard time holding on to. It just seems like when I buy certain books for myself, I end up finding some one who needs it more than me. And there it goes, into the arms of a better owner.

The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch is one of those books. This is the story of a Princess who finds herself alone in a singed castle after a dragon comes, ravages the land, and captures her prince. With nothing else to wear but a paper bag, she goes over to the dragon's cave to rescue her true love and cleverly defeats the dragon only to be told by the prince in question that she looks crummy. She tells him to take a hike and she and her paper bag go off to find better conquests.

True story: I've always had low self-esteem. It's not any ones fault; it's just the way I am. So, in High School, when one of my friends told me that I could look good even if I were wearing a paper bag, I laughed, and loved this book even more. (See those scrawny legs and that ratty hair. That girl if front of the dragon is totally me.)

Story continued: After college I actually took a chance and made a dress out of two paper bags for Halloween. It was a hit, but not the most durable costume I've ever worn.

More story: One of my sweet, sweet friends went shopping for me last month and bought me a dress:

Need a close-up?

Hummmmm. . .
So, that

plus this. . .

And these. . .

minus this . . .

Equals Fabulous!

It never felt so good to be the Paper Bag Princess.

We want to see that dress on you!! What is this with low self esteem. Man you are the coolest girl in the branch. Literally and the only reason you are not married is because there isn't anyone out there good enough for you. No matter you will have to marry down. You're my idol!!! I want to read that book too!!
